The Evening of Creativity once again welcomes Refugee Week through the doors of Oikos Cafe in Erdington - Birmingham's longest running consistent music night (never missed a month in 7 years!) prides itself on supporting the community with music, art, poetry and pizza. The night will be livestreamed via the Active Arts Castle Vale YouTube channel

Performances include:

Karolina Wegrzyn & Babak Aria

nullKarolina Wegrzyn - is a singer, accordionist and hammered dulcimer player from Poland.  Sub-Carpathia, her native region, is rich in traditional customs and multiculturalism as it borders Ukraine and Slovakia, but also reflects the Jewish, Roma and Rusyn communities that used to live there. Karolina was immersed in these traditions from a young age, performing with her grandmother's folk dance group.   Since moving to the UK Karolina is involved in many projects with musicians from different backgrounds, such as, Kamil Bogus from EIF, who combines traditional songs with ambient electronic music; also Stacja Fanfara - a concept of gathering musicians from different cultures to play their loved Eastern-European songs.  Karolina is also a visual artist and a song collector, meeting with elderly citizens to record old forgotten songs and stories.

Babak Aria – is a musician and singer from Iran.  He plays traditional Tanbour instrument and sings in Farsi, kurdish, Turkish and English. He is a song writer, composer, producer and performer, and volunteers with Masion Foo in Derby as a music composer and performer. He has performed across the midlands and for CSB at Symphony Hall and Compton Verney.

Stories of Hope and Home - is a community of people with lived experience of seeking sanctuary who come together to explore and share their stories. They will perform some spoken word pieces, on the theme "Love is a Rebellion" linked to their upcoming performance at Birmingham REP in July.
