Luchtime Concerts at Symphony Hall with Muntu Valdo

Thursday January 15th 1-2pm
Muntu Valdo (Cameroon)

Celebrating Sanctuary are back for a 2026 Season of Lunchtime Concerts at Symphony Hall. We continue to bring exceptional musicians from diverse cultural and musical backgrounds to share their culture and music with Birmingham audiences. We are kicking off the year with one of our favourites, Muntu Valdo, talented and unique musician from Cameroon.

Muntu Valdo

Cameroon-born Muntu Valdo’s music is rooted in the blues, mixing African traditions with striking modernity and technical mastery. He’s travelled all over the world and played with some of the great names of African and international music including Ali Farka Touré, Manu Dibango, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Damon Albarn, Richard Bona and Lucinda Williams just to name a few. His mesmerizing solo set juxtaposes his raw, passionate voice and intensely emotive melodies, intricate African guitar lines with an ingenious use of loops and effects to create sun-kissed groove heavy Sawa Blues. Muntu Valdo is now firmly established on the live music scene as a solo artist and always delivers an exceptional and engaging performance. He's been a regular contributor to our programme over many years and we are delighted to welcome him back to launch the 2026 Season.
